Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is books I’ve added to my TBR and forgotten why. Let me tell you, I’ve got a special skill when it comes to this.

To keep with the theme, I didn’t look at any of the blurbs or anything for these books, so I’m basing everything off covers, titles and when I added them to my Goodreads TBR. I also thought it must be fun to look what they were actually about after writing this post!

Paper Wishes by Lois Sepahban

I think this might be a WWII book? Obviously, I have no idea, but I seem to have added it around the time I added things like The Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse and also a graphic novel biography of Red Rosa, so chances are…

I got it! This is about a ten-year-old girl whose family is forced into a Japanese internment camp in 1942. Apparently, it’s also about the dog she’s forced to leave behind, so this sounds like a real tear-jerker. I really don’t do well with animal books.

Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels

I have absolutely no idea what this could be. Honestly, I thought I was pretty good at knowing why I’d added certain books to my TBR but this one draws a complete blank.

This is also a WWII book. This one is about a little Jewish boy who escapes his Polish town after being rescued. Again, it sounds heartbreaking.

The State of Grace by Rachael Lucas

Also this one? It looks like it might be a contemporary YA or something similar, but really it could be anything.

I was really, really excited about this one when I read the blurb, because the protagonist has Asperger’s. I’m feeling a bit torn about it now—some people are saying the representation is great, and then other people who I really trust are warning against it. Oh boy.

The Weight of Zero by Karen Fortunati

Again, zero ideas what this one is. It looks like it also might be a contemporary YA, but I feel like it might also be non-fiction. Who knows?

So I actually ended up ordering this one. It features bipolar disorder, and reviews are saying that it’s one of the best depictions of mental health. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m super excited for it.

The Chosen Knights by Mary Ting

Literally no idea what this is or why I added it to my TBR. The series is called ‘Angel Knights’ which leads me to believe this might be paranormal? I don’t really read paranormal, so not sure what this one is doing on there.

Yep, this is paranormal YA. While people seemed to have enjoyed this, it’s just not a genre I reach for so I think I’m going to take it off my TBR!

Amour Amour by Krista and Becca Richie

This is another one that looks vaguely angel-like. Did I go through a phase where I wanted to read angel books?

Oh boy, I was way off. This is actually NA with a circus? Yeah, I don’t do circuses unless it’s about tearing down the ableist roots, and somehow I don’t think this will.

Other Breakable Things by Kelley York and Rowan Altwood

Oh boy…the cover really gives nothing away from this one. Is it contemporary? Is it non-fiction? Is it poetry?

Okay, look at me adding all these disability books and forgetting to add them to my dedicated shelf. This is about a heart condition and a road trip romance? Sign me up!

A Bestiary by Lily Hoang

The cover and title lead me to believe this might be some kind of historical fantasy with mystical beast kind of thing, but I added it in between masses and masses of poetry. That suggests otherwise, you know?

So this is marked as poetry, memoir, essays and short stories so I still don’t really know what this is. It also has a five-star review from Roxane Gay who has yet to let me down with her recommendations.

The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon

Well, nope. I’m assuming this is fantasy? I mean, ‘sword’ makes it seem like an educated guess, but I could be completely wrong.

This a YA fantasy! I’ve also read the synopsis multiple times and I still have NO idea what the actual premise of the book is?

A List of Cages by Robin Roe

I think I have vague memories of adding this because of Cait @ Paper Fury, but I could be making that up. Again, I think this is YA contemporary too?

So Cait did review this and gave it five stars so clearly that stuck in my brain! This is a YA contemporary with ADHD rep, so it’s definitely being bumped up my list!
