It’s that time again to look back at the seasonal TBR I set myself and see what I actually read. Today we’re looking at my Winter TBR and I can tell you right off the bat that this wasn’t good one. But let’s get into it and start with the books I did manage to read!
What I Read
Savage Lands by Stacey Marie Brown
The first one I marked off for this TBR was Savage Lands which I read towards the end of July as part of Indie Accords. I went into this with pretty high hopes having read the first few chapters and been really intrigued, but sadly it didn’t live up to them. What sounded like a really unique and interesting story turned into one I’d read hundreds of times before and the characters didn’t grab my attention either. I did finish this, but I don’t think I’ll be continuing with the rest of the series.
Death by Laura Thalassa
I did manage to read this one in July as well, and unfortunately, I was kind of disappointed by this one too. It didn’t have the same spark that the first three books had for me so it ended up as a three-star read for me rather than the five that I’d been predicting.
The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
I’m so glad I managed to get this one marked off in early August. I’m hoping to finish off my reread of this entire series by the end of the year, but I’ve really enjoyed revisiting this so far. After a few disappointing reads in August, it was exactly what I needed.
Evil Under the Sun by Agatha Christie
It was really nice to be back in the hands of my favourite author in early September. While this isn’t a favourite of mine, it was still a really good mystery all in all.
What I Didn’t
Shielded by KayLynn Flanders
I had planned to get to this one this month—I’d gone as far as to take it off my shelves and put it aside. I ran out of time to actually pick it up, but I think I’m going to add it to my tentative list for October.
Great Circle by Maggie Shipstead
I started this! Honestly, considering how huge this book is, I’m pretty proud that I actually convinced myself to start it at all. I loved the 100 pages I read so I’ll definitely be trying to finish this off before the end of the year.
Malamander by Thomas Taylor
This one was due to be another reread, but I didn’t get around to it either. I realised the other day that this series isn’t actually finished yet either—it looks like it might be ending next year, so I might end up shelving this for later in the year.
The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton
I didn’t get to this one either, but part of the reason I’d selected this one was just to get back into reading classics. I’ve read a couple since I made that TBR, so even though it wasn’t this one, I’d consider that a win!
Unnatural Death by Dorothy L. Sayers
I’d honestly forgotten this was on my Kindle and that I needed to read it because I’d been so focused on reading other things off my Kindle. I think I’m going to end up reading this in October for another post anyway, so it’s not a complete fail on this one either.
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews
Okay, so I also started this one in August and I’ve spent the last month trying to decide if I want to finish it or not. I’ve made 43% of the way through so far, but I’ve been mostly bored out of my brains or seriously confused and somewhat disgusted for most of that. Part of me wants to continue because I’ve been told this is the worst book in the series and that the others are significantly better, but another part can’t be bothered. If you’ve read this one, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
And that’s it. So definitely one of my less successful seasonal TBRs, but I’m still glad I managed to get through any. But have you read any of these? Are any on your TBR?
