My Current Audiobooks And The Ones I’m Waiting On

In the last two months or so, I’ve finally become a consistent audiobook listener. I’ve been making good use of my library’s audiobook service ever since, and so today I wanted to share some of the ones I’m currently listening to and some others that I’m waiting for. Let’s get into them.

Currently Listening

Killing the Black Body by Dorothy Roberts

I’ve been waiting for my library hold of this one to come in for eight weeks. I bought a physical copy of this in 2021—I really wanted to read it but was struggling to focus and thought an audio might help. I’m already 12% of the way in and I find reading it physically alongside the audio at 1.35x speed is working the best for me.

Chasing Me To My Grave by Winfred Rembert

I’m putting this one under ‘currently listening’ even though I haven’t actually started it yet. My hold came in on Friday for this one as well but I’d been waiting so long for Killing the Black Body that I just put this one aside. I plan on starting this one midway through this week, but it depends how far I’m through with KtBB.

Waiting On

Since the audio is already helping with KtBB, I’ve ended up putting holds on these three in hope I’ll be able to get through them all too. I’ve owned all of them since 2019, making them the oldest books I still have unread.

Hunger by Roxane Gay

I read a little bit of this one, I think in 2021, but put it down and never picked it up again. I’ve really enjoyed Roxane Gay in the past so I’ll probably enjoy this one too, but I think having it on audio will be a good way to push me to read it. I’ve got about a five-week wait for this one.

Parable of the Sower (Earthseed #1) by Octavia E. Butler

I’ve been meaning to read more Butler for years but instead, I’ve just kept rereading Kindred. But now that’s going to change! I’ve heard this duology is one of her more difficult ones to read, so again I’m hoping an audiobook might help. I’ve got a six-week wait for this one.

The Hundred Year House by Rebecca Makkai

Rebecca Makkai has been a favourite author of mine for a while now, and this is the last of her books I have to read. I just listened to her newest release, I Have Some Questions For You, on audio and loved the experience so I’m hoping I’ll feel the same about this one. Apparently, I have a ten-week wait ahead of me for this one, but I’m hoping it shows up before then.

I’m planning to do an audiobook-specific version of my five most recent reads when I do manage to get through a couple of these or any others that might catch my eye between now and then.

What audiobooks have you been listening to lately? Do you have any recommendations?
