I’m in the middle of reading a lot of things for different posts and so I thought today it might be nice to keep it simple and just do a good old tag. This tag was created by Charly Ray back in 2015 but I’ve seen it doing the rounds again a lot lately. I’ll link to Charly’s original video here if you want to check it out.
1. How many books do you usually read at once?
There is no limit to how many books I might be ‘reading’ at once. I tend to start things, read a few pages and then put it down and forget about it. In terms of things I’m actively reading, this is usually somewhere between two and five depending on how much I have going on.
2. If you’re reading more than one book at a time, how do you decide when to switch to reading the other book (do you read a certain amount of pages in each?)
I’m a mood reader, so I just switch whenever I’m in the mood for something different. Sometimes I’ll give myself a specific number of pages if I’m trying to get through something by a particular date, or a certain amount of time (i.e. I’ll read this for 30 minutes), especially when I’m listening to an audiobook.
3. Do you ever switch bookmarks while you’re partway through a book?
The only situation I can really think of is if I feel like the bookmark isn’t right for the book. By this I mean, if it’s too short or too long, or if I keep losing it in the pages or it keeps falling out. I don’t really pay attention to my bookmarks beyond that.
4. Where do you keep the book you’re currently reading?
I read on the couch mostly so I often put the books I’m currently reading just on the armrests. There’s usually a huge stack of them there and it drives my partner up the all, but that’s where I like them.
5. What time of day do you spend the most time reading?
This changes all the time, but at the moment it’s mostly in the afternoon. I usually try to be productive in the mornings and then the afternoons become my time to relax.
6. How long do you typically read for in one go?
It depends on the book, but usually around 30 to 45 minutes before taking a break to stretch or go annoy my cats. Sometimes I’ll do that and then immediately go back to reading, sometimes I’ll have a longer break or switch to a different book.
7. Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off?
I hate hardcovers. I think they’re the absolute worst. If I do read them, I usually take off the dust jacket while I’m reading and then put it back on when I’m finished for the day.
8. Which position do you mainly use to read?
As I said, I read on the couch, usually with my feet up. Honestly, it really depends on whether the cats are sitting with me or not. Their comfort is most important, obviously.
9. Do you take the book you’re currently reading with you everywhere you go?
No. If I’m going somewhere where I think I might have time to read, I’ll take my Kindle but very rarely a physical book.
10. How often do you update your progress in the book you’re currently reading on Goodreads?
Never. I just don’t use Goodreads in that way anymore. Instead, I use an app to track my reading progress and only update Goodreads once I’ve written and posted my reviews here.
The final question is about tagging people, but I’ve decided to skip that one because I don’t really have anyone to tag. But that brings us to the end. Have you already done this tag? What are some of your currently reading habits?
