Watching and Listening | March – August

It’s finally time for me to share everything I’ve been watching and listening to since March this year. I’d been holding off doing this because I didn’t have much for months and months and now it’s kind of a lot. We’re just going to jump straight in with it today.

TV Shows

I’ve started watching a few shows since March and barely finished any of them. In March, I started Daisy Jones and the Six, Shadow and Bone S2 and Class of ’07 which all started that month—I watched two episodes of each and never continued. I’ll probably only return to Daisy Jones at this point.

I watched the four-part documentary series Shiny Happy People in June and really, really enjoyed it. It’s intense, but well worth the watch. I also rewatched season one of Heartstopper with my friend, Mel. I haven’t had time for season two yet, but Mel has and I highly recommend checking out the video reaction she did. I also started watching Till the End of the Moon with my best friend, Katey. This is a Chinese fantasy romance drama—we’re five episodes in and it’s been a wild ride already.

I also introduced my partner, Alex, to Doctor Who. I’m proud to say that he’s been enjoying it so far. We finished Christopher Eccleston’s run in early August and we’re very slowly working on season two. He doesn’t like David Tennant as much, which is heartbreaking because Tennant is my absolute favourite.

Films

Starting off, there were a couple of rewatches. Angel and I rewatched The Mummy together, as we always do whenever we can. I think I’ve seen this upwards of twenty times now and it’s still my favourite. I also made Alex watch Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse with me which is another favourite and he loved that too.

I’ve also been doing some film studies classes—one from March to June and then another that started a few weeks back. So far between them I’ve watched: Rebecca (a rewatch for me), Rear Window, Chungking Express, Pan’s Labyrinth, La Nuit Américaine, The Big Sleep and Dr. Strangelove. Most of these were fine, but I did really enjoy La Nuit Américaine which was a big surprise.

Then onto the non-class related and new-to-me films, I watched Everything Everywhere All At Once, Bullet Train, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Hating Game over the space of about two days when I was sick a few months back. The only one I loved was Everything Everywhere All At Once, but the others were all good.

And then, of course, we had to see Barbie. I absolutely loved it—it was completely fantastic. Alex is also obsessed with it so we’ll definitely end up watching it when it’s on streaming. We didn’t do Oppenheimer, but hopefully, that’ll be streaming on something too.

Audiobooks

I’ve actually been listening to audiobooks! Honestly, it’s a bit of character development I wasn’t expecting from myself but since May I’ve finished five. I’ve already shared my reviews of The Library by Bella Osborne, Obsession by K. Loraine and Meg Anne and I Have Some Questions For You by Rebecca Makkai. I’ll talk more about the two I’ve read since plus any others I’ve been listening to in a few days time.

That’s it for today (finally!). It feels pretty good to finally have all this stuff up and hopefully next time won’t include so many months, but we’ll see.
