#5OnMyTBR: Best Friend

#5OnMyTBR is a bookish meme hosted by E. @ Local Bee Hunter’s Nook and you can learn more about it here or in the post announcing it. It occurs every Monday when we post about 5 books on our TBR.

This is my first time joining in with this meme and I’m so glad I picked this week to do it because this is such an easy prompt for me.

I’m extremely lucky to have Angel @ Angel Reads as my best friend. We met through blogging over a decade ago and we’ve been close ever since. Not only do we share a mutual appreciation for The Mummy movies, we also enjoy a lot of the same books. So that is how I’m using this prompt, to talk about the books Angel influenced me to add to my TBR.

Not Your Pucking Girl (Kings of Denver #1) by Sheridan Anne

Angel has read quite a few of Sheridan Anne’s books and this was the only series of hers that thought I’d enjoy. Angel also kind of doubles as my trigger warning protector—she’ll read almost anything and I have a long list of triggers so she always gives me a heads up if I should avoid something. She warned me against anything else from Sheridan Anne, but I do love a good ice hockey romance. I’m hoping to read this in September, so hopefully you’ll see a review from me soon.

Delilah Green Doesn’t Care (Bright Falls #1) by Ashley Herring Blake

I’d heard a lot of good things about Delilah Green Doesn’t Care, but it wasn’t until Angel read and loved it that I really considered it something I was excited for. I go through phases where I love contemporary romance and then don’t read any for months. I’ve been in one of those ‘not reading any’ moods for a few months now, but I’m hoping to still pick this one up before the end of the year.

The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand

Angel told me to read this one years ago and it’s been on my shelves since 2020, but I’m just terrified of it. It follows a girl whose brother has committed suicide and how do you even prepare to read something like that? My mental health is definitely too fragile for it at the moment, but hopefully someday I’ll get to it.

Fourth Wing (The Empyrean #1) by Rebecca Yarros

Fourth Wing is definitely one of the biggest books of the year. I knew I would read it as soon as it was announced—I love Rebecca Yarros’ contemporary romance and she’s also just super sweet in her readers group. Angel was really the deciding factor for this one too. She’s an even bigger fan of Yarros than I am so if she didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t either. She absolutely loved it and I’ve just been waiting to not be on a book buying ban so I can pick this up.

Hostage to Pleasure (Psy-Changeling #5) by Nalini Singh

This one is cheating a little because Angel did convince me to start this series, but continuing it was definitely my idea. It also simultaneously counts extra because Angel lent me her copy when I couldn’t find one anywhere. This is the one I’m up to and I meant to read it months ago but I just haven’t been in the right mood.

And that’s it for my first #5OnMyTBR. I’m terrible at doing things weekly, but hopefully I’ll join in every few weeks at least!
