It’s that time again when I have to look back on my previous seasonal TBR and see how I did. If you’re interested, you can see my original post here and of course, my Spring TBR will be up on Tuesday. But otherwise, let’s get into it.
What I Read
Scarlet Princess (The Lochlann Feuds #1) by Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison
I ended up reading this one between writing the TBR post and it actually going live which felt pretty good. I read this while having covid for the first time so I don’t know if part of the reason I didn’t enjoy it as much as I’d hoped had to do with being so exhausted and out of it. I want to come back to the series eventually, and I’ll probably end up rereading at least the end of this one.
Emperor (Galactic Kings #2) by Anna Hackett
I also managed to read this one just after the post went live. This is a fun alien romance series but it deals with some heavier topics and has an actual sci-fi plot to it too. I also read the third book in the series and I’m hoping to finish the last one off this month.
Vintage Murder (Roderick Alleyn #5) by Ngaio Marsh
I picked this one up in July and I enjoyed it as well. I’ve been loving Marsh’s books and I’m always happy for the chance to slip back into the series. I have a few more I’d like to read before the end of the year.
The Harp of Kings (Warrior Bards #1) by Juliet Marillier
This was meant to be a reread but I surprised myself by ending up DNFing it, I think about halfway through or so. I’d loved it the first time but felt bored this time around. Making the decision to unhaul it did take the two sequels off my TBR though, which felt nice.
What I Didn’t
The Secrets in Shadow and Blood (Fae Guardians #4) by Lana Pecherczyk
I held off writing this post until the last minute because I’d really hoped to get around to this one. I’m still planning to get to this before the end of the month, but I just had other things I needed to finish first. This is part of a bigger post so that should hopefully be up late this month or early October.
Hell in a Handbasket (Sin Demons #2) by Mila Young and Harper A. Brooks // A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal (Stars and Shadows #2) by Holly Renee // In Which Matilda Halifax Learns the Value of Restraint (Halifax Hellions #2) by Alexandra Vasti
I’m grouping these three together because I did not think about picking them up at all. None of these are particularly high up on my list right now, but hopefully I’ll still manage to get to at least one of them before the end of the year.
Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #1) by Jessica Townsend // A Soul To Keep (Duskwalker Brides #1) by Opal Reyne
I’m also grouping these two together because I did technically start them before getting distracted with other things. In the case of Nevermoor, I realised the fourth book has pushed back to September 2024—I didn’t want to go through rereading the whole series only to have to wait for another year. I’ll come back to it closer to release date. With A Soul to Keep, I’m hoping to get to it in October instead.
I think four out of ten isn’t too bad. A lot of my reading goals and plans for posts changed towards the end of July/early August so I’m happy with the fact I got any of these. As I said, my Spring TBR will be up Tuesday with a whole new bunch of books!
