End of the Year Book Tag 2023 Edition

I thought today would be a good time to bring out the old End of the Year Book Tag since we’re hurtling towards the end of the year very quickly. This was started by Ariel Bissett—I don’t remember when, but here’s the 2021 version of the tag. It’s a nice quick tag so we’re going to jump straight in.

Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?

I always have a few on the go. Right now the one I really want to finish is From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata. I read the first 50 or so pages of this in September but just wasn’t in the mood for a contemporary romance, but I do want to finish it off by the end of the year.

Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?

I’m Australian so we’re technically in Spring here (not that you’d know it from Melbourne’s weather in October), but I don’t really do seasonal reads anyway. If anything, I guess I’ve been doing a spring clean of my TBR and reading things that have been sticking around on my shelves for a while.

Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?

There’s nothing that immediately comes to mind but I’m also not someone who follows new releases that much either.

What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?

I could easily find 30 books I want to read before the end of 2023, but my top three right now are:

The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon—I also started this one a few months ago and wasn’t in the mood for a contemporary romance at that point either. I need to finish this for a post, hopefully by early December.

Wildfire by Hannah Grace—I just got this one in October for my birthday. I made myself finish off a few other things first but I’ll be picking this up in the next few days.

Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare—I also got this one for my birthday. I’d been holding off on reading book two until I had this one so I’m hoping to finish that off this week and move onto this one pretty soon after. It’ll feel good to mark this series off.

Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?

Wildfire has a definite shot at becoming a favourite. I absolutely loved Icebreaker which I also read this year, but I’ve heard this one is even better. My current favourite is Firekeeper’s Daughter which I read in October so Wildfire has got some fierce competition—I don’t know if it’ll be able to beat it since one of the things I liked most of FD was the emotional effect it had on me.

Have you already started making reading plans for 2024?

A little. I’ve been making a few very loose plans of things I want to read or posts I want to do at some point next year. I’m not someone who follows a schedule with my reading so my plans are very up in the air.

I’ve also started thinking about my reading goals for next year. I don’t have anything solid yet but I’ve been playing around with a few ideas, mainly around series and the oldest books on my TBR. It’s hard to make solid plans without knowing what I’ll read between now and the end of the year. Of course, I’ll be talking about my goals in late December/January, but I’d love to hear if you have any set already.

That’s all for today. What reading are you doing as we go into the end of the year?
