Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
As usual, I left this post until the last minute, and now I don’t have time to find more than five titles so here’s what I managed to throw together.
I have a long history of not enjoying hyped books so rather than talk about how I’ll never finish the ACOTAR series or pick up anything by Brandon Sanderson, I thought I’d share a couple of community-hyped books, and some personally hyped ones, that I’ve been avoiding. You’ll notice I have a thing about avoiding sequels and big books…it is what it is.

Iron Flame (The Empyrean #2) by Rebecca Yarros // From Blood And Ash (Blood and Ash #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout // The Poppy War (The Poppy War #1) by R.F Kuang // Hollowpox (Nevermoor #3) by Jessica Townsend // Some Shall Break (None Shall Sleep #2) by Ellie Marney
Hope you’re all feeling a bit more organised than I am today!
Yeah I’m good about avoiding sequels as well.

I tend to avoid sequels and very long books, too.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one!

I tend to always be so far behind that by the time I get around to reading hyped books, they’re no longer hyped. Hah! I don’t mind sequels as I love knowing more about characters I’ve enjoyed. However, as I get older, big books make my hands hurt.

Oh me too. I’m terrible at reading new releases (not so bad at buying them, of course). I understand about your hands hurting—mine do too and I usually end up getting an audio or eBook from the library for the big books on my shelves so I can save my hands a bit.

I added Fourth Wing to my lists this week as well. Here is my post https://paigesofnovels.com/2024/10/01/top-ten-tuesday-books-i-read-because-of-the-hype/

Too much hype tends to scare me off of a book.

It seems like most people are going with books they’ve read, so I appreciate that you’re going with books you’re choosing to not read. Have a wonderful week.

I’ve read the first Marney and Townsend and was disappointed in both. The others on your list are ones I thoroughly enjoyed!

That’s so sad, I love both of them in part because they’re both Australian. I can understand why you might not though!

I hadn’t heard of The Poppy War, but goodreads makes it sound interesting!

I’ve not even heard of any of these. I’d course, I’ve avoided SM for years. Recently started insta and am already thinking of letting it lay dormant.

I like your take on the topic. I generally avoid overhyped books, too, which is why I struggled with this prompt and had to do something else! LOL
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!
