Review:
This one was a reread for me this month. I first read it last year and could remember about three-quarters of it, but nothing about the ending. After picking up my copy at BABE, I wanted to give myself a refresher before continuing with the series. That turned out to be a great choice on my part because there’s no way I would’ve remembered who the characters introduced at the end of this book were if I’d tried to go straight into book two.
This is a fun romantasy with a couple of my favourite tropes—enemies to lovers and fated mates—plus some good old princess/guard dynamics and plenty of tension. This one’s reasonably light on the spice, with just a few hints here and there, so I’m excited to see how much it heats up and when. I’m desperate for Devonry and Solomon to work out some of that tension. I’m also really interested to see how they both develop as characters, particularly Devonry, as she comes into herself more and realises her power. I love a good sheltered-princess-into-badass-queen character arc, so here’s hoping Devonry is heading down that road.
With any luck, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the rest of the series soon.
