Review:
I was down with a pretty awful bout of the flu when I came across this cover in my KU recommendations. I’d been trying to work out something to do while I couldn’t physically read and I’d thought I was in the mood for something romantasy, until I saw this one. As soon as I saw it was a team mascot/rival player romance I knew it was the one I wanted to read that day.
I was absolutely hooked from the moment I started. Ruth is chaotic in all the best ways—she’s trying to juggle being the team mascot (which she loves), college, friends while trying to manage her ADHD all on her own. I found her very relatable, her worries and fears are ones that I’ve experienced countless times in my life and that’s always nice to find in fiction. I think Anna Harrison did a great job of blanking these worries so that they felt real and never felt trivialised by the book.
I think a lot of that has to do with Rowan. What a man, honestly. I love a grump with a heart of gold who just wants to fix everything for everyone. He and Ruth are so ridiculously sweet together and I just loved every second of them together. I especially adored the petname Rowan gives her—’frog’. Ugh, so adorable.
In fact, there really wasn’t much about this book I didn’t like. It balanced the hard moments with fun banter and cute romance without going over the top. All in all, this was a fantastic debut and I can’t wait to see more from Anna Harrison.
