Looking Back on Q3 Goals and Planning Q4

As Q3 comes to a close, I’m looking back on the goals I set myself over the past few months and thinking ahead to my reading goals for Q4. Here’s a quick wrap-up and what I’m aiming for next

Q3 Goal Check In

Reading Goal: 50 Books

In order to catch up with my reading goal this quarter, I needed to read 38 by the end of September. I had a great quarter of reading so I actually managed to make it to 41 which put me ahead of my goal for the first time this year.

Book Buying Pause

The goal was to not buying any books between July and October so I could save up for RARE. I can tell you that didn’t last long. I managed to hold off until August, but then I bought 8 books secondhand. I’m glad they weren’t 8 full-price, new books but the pause was more about the amount of books coming in rather than the amount of money I was spending on them.

Read 5+ books from BABE haul

I didn’t quite manage to get to this one. I read 3 books from my BABE haul (which was a romance event I attended in June), but I wasn’t really reading romance in September and all of those books were romance.

Q4 Goals

Reading Goal: 55 Books

Since I’ve been doing so well with my reading goal, I thought I’d bump it up from 50 to 55 to push myself to finish off a few extra books in this final quarter. I’m one book behind on this new goal, but I should finish one of my current reads in the first few days of October and I shouldn’t fall behind.

Nonfiction November + No-Buy November

I always look forward to November because it means it’s time for Nonfiction November. I love an excuse to pick up some nonfiction so I’ll be joining in and sharing my TBR in late October. But this year I also wanted to do a no-buy in November—this isn’t just for books, I don’t want to buy anything for myself for the month. I’m trying to be more mindful with what I buy and so I think this’ll be helpful for me.

End of Year Clean

I always try to do a cleanup of my shelves towards the end of the year. It’s a good time for me to think about what I’ve read that year, what I want to read going into the next one and clearing out anything that doesn’t interest me anymore. I try to be a little more brutal for this clean than I am with others during the year—this is the time to bring my TBR down and start myself off fresh for the new year.

That’s it from me today. How are you going with your reading goals? What do you need to finish by the end of the year?
