Current Reads | December 2025

With December being such an intense month, I thought it would be the perfect time to do a quick little currently reading check-in. I definitely don’t have a lot of reading time right now between everything else I’m trying to juggle but these are the three I’ve been focusing on.

Burn the Stars (Dying Gods #2) by Elisha Kemp

This is my reading-for-fun, switch off my brain and just have a good time book at the moment. Ii just reread book one in this series at the end of November and I’m slowly making my way through this one now. It’s a pretty quick read but I don’t always feel like reading a lot after work and this is an easy one to dip in and out of. I am SO excited to see where this book ends considering the few twists and turns that have already happened even though I’m only 80 pages in.

The Argentina Reader: History, Culture, Politics edited by Gabriela Nouzeilles and Graciela Montaldo

I always like having a nonfiction on the go and this is the one right now. I just borrowed it from my uni library over the weekend so I’m only 25 pages in. I got a couple of books in this series though—Cuba, Brazil and Peru, and I hope to get the ones for Chile and Mexico once I’m done with these ones. I really don’t know much about any of these countries so I’m trying to expand my knowledge, but I like that these are a mix of essays, poems, folksongs, short stories and etc rather than just bland history.

A Talisman in the Dark by Olga Orozco

Finally, this one connects in really well. Olga Orozco was an Argentine writer and poet so I’m really just trying to soak up everything I can about Argentina. This is a short story collection which isn’t my usual choice, but I’ve been really, really enjoying this. Orozco is an extremely talented writer and I can’t wait to read more, I’m about 17% through so far.

What are you reading at the moment? What’s up next on your list?

  1. I just finished reading Barrin Heights by Nicole Woolaston. She’s my favorite indie author. The story is urban fiction and it’s about a teacher who moves to a new community with her nephew, and they learn they have to follow all of the rules of the town or else. It’s really exciting and it was hard to put down.
