I’ve got to say—I’m glad to see the end of December and the start of a new year. Things have been intense and tiring, not only in December but over the last few months too. I’m ready for things to slow down and get back to a somewhat normal schedule.
Reading

Yeah, I read one book during the entire month of December and it was a collection of poetry. You know what though? At least I really enjoyed this one—it’s Poesia by Isabel Meyrelles which is in Portuguese and French so I was relying on translations for the Portuguese parts and translating myself from French. It took a little more time to read because of that, but there are some really, really beautiful poems in here. I’ve only recently come across Meyrelles but I’ve been really enjoying learning more about her. This was also a read for my nonfiction book which you can hear more about over on my Substack!
TV, Movies and Music
Keeping with that theme, the only thing I actually watched in December was more of Private Practice. I’ve only got a few episodes of season two left which I’ll probably finish this month. I still don’t know how much I enjoy the show—I still love Addison but most of the other characters are sort of boring to me. I mean I do also like Dell, but that’s more because of my love of Chris Lowell as Piz in Veronica Mars (one of my all-time favourite shows). I’m taking a bit of a break from it in January.
Life Stuff
December was a rough month. Work was physically and emotional draining for most of the month and it didn’t leave room for much else. That said, I had a nice and quiet end to the year with my partner. 2025 was definitely not the worst year I’ve had even though there were some dark moments, there were also some really good ones. All in all, a mild success?
Plans for January
January is all about getting back to the things I enjoy after such a tough month at work. My big goal for 2026 is to priortise myself (which I’m chronically bad at doing), so here are a few things I’m thinking of for the month ahead:
- Finish up knitting the last few rows of my jumper
- Carve out some dedicated reading time for myself this month
There’s another month done and dusted. How was your December? What did you get up to?
