The start of a new year obviously means another list of books I want to read within the next twelve months.
I don’t work well with deadlines or forcing myself to do things when it comes to my hobbies, and so these are guidelines more than a set in stone plan. There are no consequences if I don’t read these books. This is a way to flag some books that maybe I’ve forgotten about or things that I need to stop waiting for that “perfect time” to read them rather than something to force myself to read. With that in mind, let’s talk about the books.
Wanderlust (Sirantha Jax #2) by Ann Aguirre
I have been meaning to continue this series since 2023 when I read the first book, so this is pretty high up in my priorities. I bought the entire series after reading book one so I can enjoy them all this year if I choose to do that. I’m not usually a sci fi reader at all, but this one grabbed me so I’m going with it.
The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas
I loved The Spanish Love Deception when I read it, and then I picked up The Fiancee Dilemma with my friend Helen. I did not enjoy that one at all but I had this one still waiting for me on my shelves. This is my make or break for Elena Armas—if I enjoy this then I might read more this year, if I don’t then I know she’s not an author for me right now.
A Tempest of Tea (Blood and Tea #1) by Hafsah Faizal
I ordered this one for some kind of challenge or reading project which I immediately forgot about and it’s been sitting on my shelves since. I keep telling myself I’ll pick it up and then I pick something else up instead!
The Striker (Gods of the Game #1) by Ana Huang
This is the newest one on my shelves—it just came out last year so it hasn’t been sitting around for too long.I want to get to it sooner rather than later because I think this is one of those books that would easily be forgotten on my shelves.
Have you read any of these? What books are on your list for 2026?
