What I Haven’t Been Reading

Today is a sort of reverse-currently reading post. I’ve not been making time to read for a while now—I’ve been wrapped up in my knitting and with work, and reading just hasn’t been a priority.

That doesn’t mean that I haven’t been starting books. So today I’m sharing with you the things I’ve started reading and then continuously ignored for other things.

Frida: The Biography of Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrera

I’m giving myself a pass on this one. It’s research for the book I’m writing on Surrealist women (which you can find out about on my Substack) and so it’s slow going. It’s about taking notes and investigating the little threads that I find. While I am enjoying it, it’s definitely not reading for fun. With the way I’m reading it might take me an hour or two to get through a short chapter rather than a couple of minutes—it’s exhausting work.

Twilight (Twilight #1) by Stephanie Meyer

I bought this for myself for my birthday last October and started it around the same time, but I never came back to it. This was a reread—I hadn’t touched it since the film adaptation era—and it was meant to be light, nostalgic fun. I was really enjoying—it was nice to revisit something I loved as a teenager, but I got distracted by life things and never got around to finishing it.

A Little Too Late (Madigan Mountain #1) by Sarina Bowen

I started this one in late December and I read 40% of it within a few hours but then my mood changed and I just wasn’t in the mood for a contemporary romance. I keep thinking about coming back to this one and how much I want to finish it, but I’m still not in the right mood for it and I don’t want to push myself and then end up hating it.

So those are the books I’ve been avoiding lately. Here’s hoping that maybe I’ll get out of this reading funk I’ve been in for so long someday and I’ll be able to finish these and some others.
