If you’re interested in seeing how I did with my Winter TBR, I wrote a post about that just the other day. For the rest of 2020, my main focus is on reading the books I bought this year. There’s a lot of them, but here are ten I’m hoping to get to.
The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski
I have admittedly been putting this one off even though I pre-ordered it for March. If you’re new here, you’re about to see my avoidant personality in full force because this is kind of a strong theme in these books.
Below Deck by Sophie Hardcastle
Okay, I have a slightly more justifiable reason for this one. I’m kind of thinking this might be a contender for the Stella Prize 2021 longlist. So I’ve been putting it off until the end of the year so it’ll be fresh in my mind as we go into predictions for the Stella Project (a non-Prize-affiliated book club I run where we read those longlists!)
The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner
I read Rayne and Delilah’s Midnite Matinee earlier this year and instantly ordered Zentner’s other two books. Naturally, I haven’t picked either of them up yet! This one seems like a good enough place to start.
Hurricane Season by Fernada Melchor
This book sounds like it’s going to be beautiful. Also, it has a gorgeous cover. It’s also published by Text, who have honestly been dominating the game with their 2020 releases. Bonus points for being a reasonably short book too.
Allegedly by Tiffany D. Jackson
With Jackson’s new book Grown being released a few days ago, I’ve been wanting to pick up her other books. I read Monday’s Not Coming in 2018, but I’d like to reread that as well as Allegedly and Let Me Hear A Rhyme.
Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell
Another one I’ve been majorly avoiding. I was meant to read this as part of my plan to make it through the entire Women’s Prize 2020 list. It got a bit hard to keep going with that with libraries closed here, but I did buy myself a copy of Hamlet to read. I might not get to the others, but I can at least get to this.
Strip Jack by Ian Rankin
I’ve been very, very, very slowly making my way through the Inspector Rebus series and this is the next one I’m up to. This is book four, so I’m really not far into the series at all. I didn’t love book three, but I own up to book six so I’m at least going to give those a chance.
You Should See Me In A Crown by Leah Johnson
I’ve been seeing so many good things about this one lately but it kinda got pushed to the back of my mind while I was doing other reading projects. Again, this is a nice short one so it should be a quick read!
Tempt Me At Twilight by Lisa Kleypas
I always need a little bit of historical romance to break things up. I started the Hathaways series back in July, but I needed a little break after not really enjoying the second one. I think I’m ready to jump back into this world now.
Katherine of Aragon by Alison Weir
I bought this one as a kind of concession for not getting to see Six the Musical because of lockdown. I’m still sad about that, but I hope this will kind of fill my need to know more about Katherine of Aragon, and the other women. Well, this and listening to the soundtrack for the 800th time.

Great list. I loved putting mine together.
Enjoy Six Tudor Queens. Katherine of Aragon. The True Queen. I have read all oft he queen books Alison Weir has pubished so far. If you would like to read about all of them at the same time, I highly recommed The Six Wives of Henry VIII which is more a non-fiction book than the others but also readable like a novel.

I think the plan is to read the single stories first and then maybe go into the non-fiction if I enjoy Weir’s writing.

Certainly a good idea. But I guess, many would be in my position where they read “The Six Wives” before the individual novels because it was published about twenty years earlier. I intend to reread it once she has published all her books about the different queens.
