My Plans for NaNoWriMo

November is possibly my favourite month of the year. Two of my favourite events are on—Non-Fiction November and of course, NaNoWriMo. I’ll be sharing my TBR for Non-Fiction November over on my channel tomorrow, so I thought I’d talk about NaNoWriMo over here and what my plans are for it this year.

First up, if you want to follow along with my progress this November, you can find my profile here. I’ll also be blogging about my writing throughout the month because I find it really helps me staying motivated. I’m not sure what these posts will look like yet, but the idea is to have some fun with them.

So the big question is, what am I writing? Well, if you’ve followed me from blog to blog, you will have heard me talk about the novel I’ve been writing. It’s called Tied Together, and I finished writing the first draft in 2015 and I’ve spent the last five years trying to write the second.

I really haven’t been writing anything for the past three years so I’m feeling more than a little rusty. Add to the fact I just didn’t know where I was going with this story anymore, I decided that I’d go in a little bit of a different direction for this NaNo. So instead I’m writing a prequel novella to help ease myself back into writing and this world.

The novella is tentatively called All The Long Gone Darlings, and it takes place over 200 years before the actual novel. It follows the ancestors of the two main characters in Tied Together and the events that lead up to the curse that affects those later characters. My thought process here is that hopefully by knowing this story, it’ll help me work out the finer details for the curse, thus making it once less thing I have to stress about later.

I know this isn’t going to be one draft wonder sort of thing. There’s a lot of research that needs to go into it because of the setting, which is the court of Versailles in the 1680s. These are also essentially new characters to me—I’ve always known these two women existed because of the role they play for the main story, but I don’t really know them yet.

Either way, it’s all very exciting and I can’t wait to share my progress with you all during the upcoming month!
