It’s My Birthday So Let’s Talk About Some Bookish Wishes

I’m 26 today! *cue streamers* I was kind of tossing up what to do for this post when I thought that it might be fun to talk about some of my bookish wishes. So that’s what I’m going to do and let’s get into it.

Things I’d Like To See In Books

More Diabetes Representation

Over the years I’ve read and researched a lot of YA books with disabilities in. It’s honestly been a joy o see more stories feature around characters with club feet, which I was born with. I haven’t read all of them, obviously, but the ones I have, have been very similar to my own experiences. But I’ve yet to see many books with Type One Diabetes represented. I’ve been diabetic since I was 14 and I’ve had a rough go of it—I think as a teenager, it would’ve been so beneficial for me to see characters going through the same things as I was. I firmly believe that every disability deserves more representation, but on a personal level, I’d love to see more diabetics in YA.

Trigger Warnings To Include Spiders

I have this theory that high fantasy authors believe they have to include some kind of spider-like creature to count. There are just so many huge spider-like creatures in different books and I hate it. I’m pretty badly arachnophobic and even typing this makes it flare up, let alone suddenly reading about it. You know the website, Does the Dog Die? which is for films, well I propose Does This Have Spiders? so that we can all stay safe out there.

Unreleased Books

Death by Laura Thalassa

Death has been my most anticipated release for this year. For a while, we didn’t have a release date but recently Laura Thalassa announced it would be released on November 9th. THAT’S ONLY A MONTH AWAY! So yeah, you could say I’m pretty damn excited for this one to be out. I absolutely adored the first three books in the series—I’d consider them some of my favourite books so I’m hoping this one will be just as great so I can consider this one of my all-time favourite series. If you like romance with a paranormal/dystopian twist, then this is definitely a series you should consider picking up.

Electric Idol by Katee Robert

You might have heard me squeal about Neon Gods, or just Katee Robert in general lately because I’m kind of obsessed. Neon Gods is easily one of the best books I’ve read this year so I have high hopes for this book too. For those of you who might not know, this is basically a modern-day romance retelling of the Greek myths. The first book was Hades and Persephone because they’re like the ultimate Greek couple, right? This book, however, is going to be Eros and Psyche which just sounds incredible. Katee Robert just has this way of making her books extremely sexy, but also surprisingly sweet in a strange way? Highly recommend these ones as well.

So those are my wishes for this year! I hope you’re all having a lovely day and I’ll see you tomorrow.
