Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s prompt is books that bring me comfort. I decided to go with my favourite middle-grade series because MG is one of my comfort genres for sure. I only have five today, so let’s get into them.
Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
Obviously, I had to include this series since it’s one of my ultimate favourites. Whether it’s the original series or the Heroes of Olympus, these books never fail to make me smile, laugh and ugly sob. I love Annabeth with my whole heart, but Percy is extra special as I named one of my cats after him.
Pages & Co by Anna James
This is the perfect series for any booklover. The characters in here can travel into the world of their favourite stories and it’s just such a beautiful love letter to fictional characters and storytelling. If you haven’t read this yet, I highly recommend you do.
Starfell by Dominique Valente
This is a really beautiful series about family and friends, finding your place in the world and, of course, magic. I’ve honestly cried at all three books in this series that I’ve read, but in a good way—like a I wish I’d had this book when I was a child kind of way.
Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend
Speaking of books I wish I’d had as a child—this is MAGNIFICENT. This is also about magic (are you sensing a theme here?) but it’s also about found families and friends. The world-building is absolutely incredible and I love all of the characters.
Stella Montgomery Intrigue by Judith Rossell
This one is a little different to the others. As you may have guessed by the series title, this is a sort of mystery—it’s historical and it has some fantastical elements as well. It’s kind of a mix of A Series of Unfortunate Events meets Nancy Drew (two of my childhood favourites) and it’s filled with absolutely stunning illustrations.
I don’t tend to read middle grade but I find the Wimpy kids books comforting.

Interesting list. Unfortunately, I don’t read middle grade books, but your list of comfort reads make me want to get started, especially Pages & Co.

I love Percy Jackson too! My best friend and I actually bonded over a shared love of Percy Jackson, so it will always be extra special to me for that reason 🙂

I haven’t read much middle grade since my girls got out of that age range, but I can see going back to Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
