Did I Read My Summer 2023 TBR?

Summer is technically over (even if the weather isn’t) and so it’s time to take a look at my summer TBR and check what I actually read. To be honest, I didn’t do so well with this list—I read three of them, but most just ended up falling by the wayside. But let’s get into it.

What I Read

If We Ever Meet Again (If Love #1) by Ana Huang

I read this one pretty soon after my TBR went out, and I ended up really enjoying it. It’s not my favourite contemporary romance by any means, but it was enjoyable enough that I ordered the series and I’m looking forward to picking them up.

Grimspace (Sirantha Jan #1) by Ann Aguirre

I picked this one up in February and absolutely loved it. It immediately went into the running to be one of my favourite books of the year and I also ordered the rest of the series of this one. I added book two to my Autumn TBR yesterday so I’m very excited to get to it.

Crystal Crowned (Air Awakens #5) by Elise Kova

And finally for the ones I read. I ended up DNFing this one. I’d reread the earlier books in the series in preparation for this one and ended up hating books three and four so by the time I got to this one, I was completely over it and I could not be bothered to push through. But hey, it’s off my TBR.

What I Didn’t

The Son of Neptune (Heroes of Olympus #2) by Rick Riordan

I was hoping to finish this one off just before getting this post up, but I got distracted by reading others. I’m about 220 pages in so I’ll hopefully finish it off this week instead. This is a reread for me, so I’m not overly stressed about not finishing it before now.

Manix (Shadow Bred #1) by Grace McGinty

I did start this one and I just wasn’t feeling it at the time. I returned it to KU, but I’ll most likely end up picking it up back up in the next few months and hopefully I feel in the mood for it this time around.

Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody #1) by Elizabeth Peters

I also started this one, read about 25 pages and decided it wasn’t for me. I’ve been enjoying this kind of historical cosy mystery, but to be honest, this is extremely dated. It was released in 1975 and is set in the late 1800s so the racism is rampant and unchallenged and I just don’t have the time for that shit.

‘Twas the Night After Christmas (Hellions of Halstead Hall #6) by Sabrina Jeffries

Ha, okay, I had this whole plan of finishing this series by the end of 2022 so that I could move onto the other 80 million Sabrina Jeffries I want to read. I was up to book five, so I literally only had to read two books and I still didn’t do it. Honestly, I’ve just not been in the historical romance mood but I’ll come back to this eventually.

The Weight of Our Sky by Hanna Alkaf / Wicked Beauty (Dark Olympus #3) by Katee Robert / Glint (Plated Prisoner #2) by Raven Kennedy

I honestly did not think of picking any of these three up. I ended up having a lot more things to read from the end of December through to end of February that I didn’t account for in that original TBR and these just weren’t on the top of my list.

And that’s all for today. It definitely wasn’t my best seasonal TBR wrap-up, but sometimes things just happen that way. Here’s hoping I have better luck with my TBR for Autumn.
