Ten (and a bit) Books I’ve Reread This Year | Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week is a freebie, so I thought I’d talk about the ten (plus a few) books that I’ve reread so far this year.

Rhapsodic (The Bargainer #1) by Laura Thalassa

This was my first reread of the year in late January. I hosted a small readalong of this series with a few friends of mine and we had a great time. This isn’t my favourite series from Thalassa, but it was fun to experience again with some friends who had never read her before.

Earth’s End & Water’s Wrath (Air Awakens #3-4) by Elise Kova

I reread these two in February so I could finally finish off the series and I did not enjoy that experience at all. I’d loved these books the first time around but hated them this time. I was really, really sad that I felt like that but it had been a good few years since I’d originally read them and my tastes have definitely changed.

The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera

This was our book club pick for February and is also one of my favourite books. It’s such a beautiful and emotional story—I’ve read this twice now and seen the movie many, many times and it still makes me cry every time.

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours #1) by Cassandra Clare

I reread this one in March with the goal of continuing the series…and I still haven’t done that. It’s mostly because I’ve been trying not to buy books outside of two book events in April and June so I haven’t picked up book three yet. But also, these books are so huge and it’s kind of a time commitment.

Broken Bonds & Savage Bonds (The Bonds That Tie #1-2) by J Bree

This is a similar situation. I reread these first two to continue on and still haven’t. I did start book three but ended up getting distracted by other things. I’m planning to restart it, maybe this month, and continue the series from there.

The Solace of Sharp Claws (Fae Guardians #2) by Lana Pecherczyk

Again, reread this to continue the series. Only this time I did! I read book three not long after and I should be finishing book four by tomorrow or Thursday so I can move onto book five soon too. This is one of my favourite series at the moment—I absolutely love it and very highly recommend it.

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

I reread this one for a video I’ll be doing later in the year. I’ve long considered this one of my favourite books of all time. Sepetys is incredible at crafting a story and this still holds up even though I read it for the first time years ago.

The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

I’d been so excited to reread this one in May, but it ended up kind of being a disappointment. The first time around, it completely broke my heart but this time I wasn’t impressed by the writing or have much of an emotional response at all.

Well Met (Well Met #1) by Jen DeLuca

I picked this one up a few weeks ago with the plan of continuing the series after as well. About a week ago, I realised I don’t actually have an interest in the rest of the series. I’m glad I reread this but I’m also glad that I decided not to continue.

Tilly and the Bookwanderers (Pages & Co #1) by Anna James

I just reread this one last week with my friend Helen. We’re going through the entire series together and just having a lovely time. This is another all time favourite of mine and I’m so glad that I’ve been enjoying it just as much this time around.

And that’s it from me. Are you rereader? What’s on your list to reread?

  1. I used to reread a lot when I was younger but I just don’t have the time anymore! I’m glad to hear a lot of these still held up for you, especially Between Shades of Gray as that’s my favourite Sepetys book, but sorry that some of your favourites didn’t: I actually had the same reaction to The Song Of Achilles reading it, though it was my first time not a reread, from everything everyone said, I was expecting to have this massive emotional reaction to it…..and I just didn’t.

  2. I had no idea Whale Rider was based on a book, am intrigued.

Anyway, great post. I’m always interested in hearing the rationale behind rereads (especially when people have actually done so, and not just put them on a “want to reread” list, because we all know how often intent translates to action…at least for me). And I’m really glad to hear Between Shades of Grey held up! I barely remember anything about this book except a vague fond feeling and knowledge I rated it 4 stars, and have been thinking about a reread.

Just realized I have not reread a single thing this year except Running out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix, to refresh my childhood memory before reading the newly-released sequel. And even that, I’m only 90% sure I DID read it the first time around, as opposed to hearing about it…
