Q3 Goals Update | Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week is all about our reading goals and what we still need to accomplish before the end of the year.

I changed most of my reading goals at the end of July. I just realised that the things I’d set didn’t really fit with what was actually important to me at this point in the year. I think it’s important to reassess goals and adapt them throughout the year. My reading at the start of the year is very different to where it is now so I want goals that actually reflect that. With that said, I have six goals currently.

Physical TBR to 313 or less

This is the only goal that hasn’t changed at all for me. I had 313 books on my physical TBR at the very start of 2023 and I wanted to end the year with equal or less than that. This has worked a lot better for me than trying to set a number drastically lower than the TBR I started with. I managed to drop down to 293 in September. I’m hoping I’ll be able to keep this under 300 for this point on.

Read 185 books

This one was a very small change—I’d originally set my goal at 180 but decided in September that I wanted to push myself a little. I was already behind on my goal but decided to go for it anyway. I’m now at 130 so I’d need to read 24 books to catch up. I honestly don’t know if that’s possible so I think I’ll reassess this goal halfway through the month.

Continue or finish 35 series

I’d dropped this one down quite a bit. Originally I’d planned on 50 series but I realised pretty early on that wasn’t going to have. I’m at 15 now. Next year I definitely want to set this up in a different way. Right now I only count one book per series so when I’ve been reading three or four books in a series it looks like I’m making no progress. I’ll see what I can come up with for next year. But for now, honestly I’m not too disappointed in having continued 15 so far.

Listen to 15 audiobooks

This marks the start of the reading goals I added in July. I was honestly never an audiobook girlie before midway through this year when I suddenly became obsessed. I’ve listened to 8 audiobooks so far, but I’m not too stressed about this goal because I do have a few on the go and a few more I’m waiting for at the library.

Read 25% of 2023 purchases

This one became pretty important after I attended RARE and BABE in April and June respectively. These are two huge romance events and I bought a lot of books at both. I went with just 25% because I also want to make sure I’m reading the older things on my TBR too. Right now I’ve bought/got 161 books so 25% is 40 and I’ve read 33. I’ve got quite a few on my TBR for October so I’m hoping to get this number up, especially keeping in mind that it is my birthday this month and I know I’m getting at least a few books.

Read 25 non-fiction books

Last but not least! I know non-fiction gets a bad wrap but I do actually enjoy the niche areas of non-fiction I read. I made this goal because I keep my non-fiction books seperate and I forget to pick them up. I’ve read 16 so far this year and with it being Non-fiction November next month, I’m not worries about reaching this one.

And that’s all of my goals right now. I’m so excited to see what other people’s goals are so I can start getting some inspiration for next year!

  1. You have some impressive goals! I could never manage to read that many in a year. But I am always in awe of those who do. 🙂 Hope you have meet some of your goals and congrats on those you are managing well. It’s always fun to cross off a goal list. 🙂

  2. Last year I did pretty well on finishing series but I’ve dropped the ball on that one this year as well. There is just so many new good things coming out, it is hard to focus on the things you’ve been working on already, i guess. Shiny new things!

  3. I got way into audiobooks this year, too! Not sure why. I think it was because I discovered there are books on Audible I can listen to without buying so long as I’m subscribed to Audible, kind of like Kindle unlimited.

  4. Great point about reevaluating and changing goals. It makes sense that as your life changes, so do your goals. And since our reading goals are really only important to us, we can change them as often as we like! Good luck with reaching all your goals this year.

    Happy TTT!

  5. Great goals. It seem that TBR is on a lot of lists but seems to be the biggest one that everyone is having trouble with. At this point I don’t think I’ll ever finish my TBR so I just want to start crossing books off of it.
