An Update On My TBR + Reading Projects

Hi, everyone! Today I thought I’d do a little update on my TBR and where it’s standing as well as let you know about a couple of mini reading projects I’ve created for myself to focus on for the rest of the year.

So first up as it stands right now, my TBR is at 272. I’m a big believer in deciding your own limits for your TBR—if you want a TBR of 0, good for you, but if you want a large one, then I fully support your decision! For me, I decided this year that ideally I wanted to get under 200 but that 300 was my absolute limit. As you can see, I’m getting close to that.

This is really a case of buying more books in a month than what I’m reading and just not managing to catch up. This month I put myself on a little bit of a book buying ban, which I then broke pretty much immediately, but I’m back on track with it now. I’d really like to stay with that as much as possible for August and September in the lead up to my birthday in October and, of course, Christmas. I don’t expect to read the 72 books to get back down to 200 before the end of the year, but I don’t want to get any closer to 300 either. So with that, I’ve set myself a few mini reading projects and challenges to help get that number down.

2019 Project

Last year, I worked on this little thing I called the 2018 project is which I try to read all the books I bought in 2018. That went really well and now I’d like to move onto doing the same with my 2019 books. As it stands right now, 15 of the books on my TBR are from 2019 so I think this is doable. A number of this could also double up as books for these other challenges so that’s even better.

Finish Some Romance Series

One of my goals for this year was to finish 15 series, and a great way to do that for me is to finish up some of the romance series I have on the go or that I haven’t started, but are on my shelves. Right now I have three particular ones in mind; the Bareknuckle Bastards series from Sarah MacLean (which I have books two & three left unread), the Knight Miscellancy series by Gaelen Foley (books four through seven) and the Hellions of Halstead Hall by Sabrina Jeffries (which I haven’t started but I do own all six books). Reading those alone would take twelve books off my TBR!

2020 Haul Revisits

Over on my channel, I’ve been doing these haul revisits this year. This basically works the same as the 2019 books, but I’ve been going through the books I bought month by month. My goal by the end of the year is to have this number down to 50, and right now it’s currently sitting on 67 which feels like a doable number as well.

2021 Purchases

And finally, I’d like to work on the things I’ve bought this year too. I’m planning to do my haul revisits again next year so with that in mind I would like to get a head start on those books so I don’t have as many to read when I come to do this next year.

And so those are my plans for the next few months. How’s your TBR looking?
