Last month I did a post sharing a couple of the books I’d bought and today I thought I’d do the same. These are just five of the books I purchased as part of my August haul. If you’re interested in seeing the full haul, you can watch it here. But without further ado…
After Story by Larissa Behrendt
I was lucky enough to receive this one as a gift from my lovely friend Mel just the other day. This one had been on my wishlist for quite a while but I just hadn’t gotten around to picking it up, so imagine my surprise when it arrived on my doorstep. This follows an Indigenous lawyer, Jasmine as she and her mother take a tour around England’s most popular literary sights. I think this is a little bit about trauma, as Jasmine’s older sister went missing 25 years before the story, but it seems to be mostly about words and stories and the power they can hold over us. It sounds like a really incredible read and I’m so thankful to Mel for sending it my way.
These Hollow Vows by Lexi Ryan
Have you ever bought a book because the title sounds cool? Personally, I’m a huge sucker for a good or funny title, even more than a pretty cover sometimes. These Hollow Vows might kind of follow that popular YA trend of naming books ‘These …’ but I’m still 100% here for that trend. So I bought it. In my defence, this is a fae love-triangle kind of book and I’m also really into that right now. My hope is to read this in September as part of one of the thousand and one read-a-thons that I plan to participate in.
Seven Days in June by Tia Williams
This has been one of most anticipated reads for months now and it finally made it over here. I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am about this. If you follow Angel and I’s discussions you’d know that we were meant to discuss in July, but we’re running a little behind with them at the moment. We’ll be starting this one this week so hopefully, we’ll have that discussion up for you soon!
Jade War by Fonda Lee
I started reading Jade City back in May and as much as I’ve been loving it, I just haven’t gotten around to finishing it. I thought it’d be a great push if I just bought myself the sequel and then I’ll have to finish it! I’ve had this for about two weeks now and that hasn’t happened, but I have been caught up reading other things for different posts and projects so I’m holding out hope that I’ll still manage to get these both done before the end of the year.
Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett
And finally for today’s post. I bought myself a bunch of Discworld books this month. I just started buddy reading these with Mel so I thought I’d go ahead and purchase the next couple as I’d finished all the ones I owned. If you’re interested in seeing my thoughts about the first five books in the series, I did a post about that last week. I’m incredibly excited for this one in particular because it’s part of the Witches sub-series and that’s my favourite so far.
So that’s it for today. What are some of the books you’ve hauled recently?
