So you might have noticed I’ve been on a little bit of a break recently, but I’m back now (hopefully!) and I’m here to talk about the last four books I bought. So without further ado, let’s jump into it.
Down Below by Leonora Carrington

Lately, I’ve been really interested in the female artists who were a part of the Surrealist movement, particularly Leonora Carrington and Remedios Varo. Down Below is a really short little autobiography/memoir of Leonora Carrington and a psychotic break that she suffered after her partner was arrested and sent to a concentration camp during the 40s. She ended up in a mental institution under the ‘care’ of, reportedly, a rather cruel doctor and she recorded her experiences for what would become this book. I think this is going to be a pretty intense read, maybe quite upsetting, but I’m still very interested to learn about Carrington through her own words.
Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao
Iron Widow is one of my most anticipated books of the year and I’m so thankful to have finally gotten my hands on it. I missed out on getting it when it was first released due to lockdown here but it’s finally in my hands and I’ll be reading it this week. I’ve honestly heard nothing but good things about this one so I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am to be reading it. I’m sure I’ll talk about it in another post, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re interested!
Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan

I absolutely did not need to buy this last week, but I couldn’t resist it. I’m quite a few books behind with Riordan and I kind of have a plan on the order I want to read them and I wouldn’t be getting to this one for months, but like I said—I couldn’t resist. I’m really interested in this one especially since it seems to be a step away from Riordan usual kind of book. Obviously, I adore the Percy Jackson series and all, but I’m also excited to see what he might do with something a little different. I guess we’ll see in a few months, hey?
The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
I’ll admit that I know basically nothing about this one, but Angel bought it recently and then I was like ‘oh, I need that too’. So yes, this was definitely a cover buy but other people seem to be really be enjoying it so I’m holding out hope that I will too. I’m sure I’ll also be talking about this one in an upcoming too.
So that’s it for today. What books have you bought recently?
