Reader Problems Book Tag

It’s been a while since I did a tag on here, but today I have the reader problems book tag to do. This tag was created by About to Read, but the video is no longer available so I grabbed these questions from Zezee With Books. Without further ado, let’s jump into the questions.

YOU HAVE 20,000 BOOKS ON YOUR TBR. HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU DECIDE WHAT TO READ NEXT?

Sometimes it honestly feels like I have 20,000 books on my TBR now. I’m not someone who can stick to a monthly TBR, so I’m very much a mood reader. So every time I feel like starting a new book, I just go with whatever I feel like I’m in the mood for.

YOU’RE HALFWAY THROUGH A BOOK AND YOU’RE JUST NOT LOVING IT. DO YOU QUIT OR ARE YOU COMMITTED?

Quit. 100%. Life is too short to be reading books you’re not loving!

THE END OF THE YEAR IS COMING AND YOU’RE SO CLOSE, BUT SO FAR AWAY, ON YOUR GOODREADS READING CHALLENGE. DO YOU TRY TO CATCH UP AND HOW?

I’ll try and catch up, but whether that happens or not is another thing. It honestly depends on the year too. Sometimes I’ll try and read some short books to make the goal, other times I’ll just try and finish off the things I’m already reading.

THE COVERS OF A SERIES YOU LOVE DO. NOT. MATCH. HOW DO YOU COPE?

This happens so much these days that I kinda don’t care. While I like my books looking pretty and all, I buy books to read them not just to collect them so if they don’t match, I’ll just keep them and deal with it.

EVERY ONE AND THEIR MOTHER LOVES A BOOK YOU REALLY DON’T LIKE. WHO DO YOU BOND WITH OVER SHARED FEELINGS?

I tend to hate hyped books, so usually, I just end up complaining about them with my bestie, Angel. I don’t know what I would do without her, honestly.

YOU’RE READING A BOOK AND YOU ARE ABOUT TO START CRYING IN PUBLIC. HOW DO YOU DEAL?

Stop. I’m a very emotional person—I cry at books and movies all the time, so this has happened more than few times.

A SEQUEL OF A BOOK YOU LOVED JUST CAME OUT, BUT YOU’VE FORGOTTEN A LOT FROM THE PRIOR NOVEL. WILL YOU RE-READ THE BOOK?

It depends. The thing is, I’m so bad with series that often I’ll reread the prior book and put off reading the new one for so long that I forget again anyway.

YOU DO NOT WANT ANYONE. ANYONE. BORROWING YOUR BOOKS. HOW DO YOU POLITELY TELL PEOPLE NOPE WHEN THEY ASK?

Honestly, I have two people in my life right now who would ask to borrow books from me and I trust them both so I really have no idea what I’d say.

READING ADD. YOU’VE PICKED UP AND PUT DOWN 5 BOOKS IN THE LAST MONTH. HOW DO YOU GET OVER YOUR READING SLUMP?

I complain to Angel. And then eventually I start reading little by little until I find something I do enjoy.

THERE ARE SO MANY NEW BOOKS COMING OUT THAT YOU’RE DYING TO READ! HOW MANY DO YOU ACTUALLY BUY?

Way too many. Honestly, I tend to buy just as many backlist books, if not more, as I do new releases. Because I read a wide variety of genres, I’m constantly finding books I want to read and so it can be a little hard to limit myself sometimes.

AFTER YOU’VE BOUGHT THE NEW BOOKS YOU CAN’T WAIT TO GET TO, HOW LONG DO THEY SIT ON YOUR SHELF BEFORE YOU GET TO THEM?

Sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes months. And other times, literally years. It really depends on the book, but also what I’m prioritising at that particular time. For example, this year I’ve really put an emphasis on reading the books I bought last year (there are a lot of them) and I’m a little less focused on reading some of the older books on my TBR. But in a few months, that might completely switch and I’ll end up reading some of the really old ones or a lot of the really new ones.

So that’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this tag and I’ll see you all again in a few days.

  1. Oh, the covers that do not match – I totally understand! I do not read many series, but I do prefer to have matching covers (same style) for the books by the same author. For example, I have The Foundling and The Familiars by Stacey Halls with the same style of covers – magic!

On the other side, there’s a charm in having non-matching covers.
For example – for The Cemetery of Forgotten Books, my favourite series of all times, I have 3 styles for 4 books, and they don’t even have the same size! That’s because one of the books was bought from a second-hand store in the Netherlands (when I knew nothing about the series), and the other ones were bought afterwards as they were published.
