All things considered May was a pretty good month.
I managed to not only catch up on my reading goal but to get a few books ahead too. Let’s talk about it all…
Reading

Look at all these beautiful books!
I don’t really know what happened but after finally finishing Sunrise on the Reaping I just went on a bit of a reading spree and picked the rest of these up pretty much back to back. I had a really great month reading them all—the only one I didn’t enjoy was The Cathedral of Myth and Bone but my thoughts on that and some of these others will come in another post.
I have posted about Sunrise on the Reaping and Twilight, and I also talked about Picasso: Love and War on my Substack if you’re interested seeing anything about those three!
TV, Movies and Music
I made a little note for myself that it had been a good month for TV this month, but I honestly couldn’t tell you what I watched. Other than Off-Campus of course! I knew the show would dominate my month as a long-time fan of the series and I just thought it was excellent. I’ve rewatched the series twice in full and then spent the rest of the month watching clips on YouTube. I have no regrets.
Life Stuff
May is always a bit of a weird month for me. It’s Mother’s Day here and then also my mum’s birthday towards the end of the month. My mum passed away over a decade ago, but I still really struggle with the reminders of her loss in May. Anyone who has experienced the death of someone extremely close to them knows that it ebbs and flow. Sometimes I’m completely okay and I can focus on my good memories with her, other times the loss of her is so painful that I feel like I can’t even breathe, and most of the time, it’s somewhere in between. This month was definitely in the middle, which I’m taking as a positive.
Sorry to get so deep and emotional on a wrap-up post, but I think it’s important to be candid about things like this.
Plans for June
As the weather gets colder and colder here, I’m settling in for hibernation which means lots of books and lots of knitting…
- Finish The Serpents and Kings trilogy by S.M Gaither (2 books to go!)
- Finally finish my Rosie sweater which has been on my needles for months
- Finish writing my current article
That was my May. What did you get up to last month?
I’m sorry for your loss, and I’m glad that this year was an in-between year, and that you managed to read some good books during the month as well.
I can definitely relate to reading one good book and then that setting you on a bit of reading binge – something similar happened to me this month too.
I guess you’re in the southern hemisphere? Would you mind sending some chilly cosiness my way? (Jokes – luckily the heatwave here has subsided – I’m going down to London tomorrow and seeing the temperature last week had me terrified.) Knitting and books sounds like the perfect cosy combination, though.
