I Won Book Bingo + September’s Board

It’s time today to wrap up my August book bingo and talk about my next board for September. You can check out my post from August if you’d like, but otherwise let’s get into this one.

As you can see by the title and the board—I actually managed to finish all the prompts this month! So here are the books I read for each prompt and some quick thoughts on each of them.

A place in the title: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. This was beautifully written but lacked an emotional connection for me. You can hear me talk about it more in this video.

Friend pick: The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope. You can also hear me talk about this one in that video.

Non-fiction: Why She Wrote by Lauren Burke and Hannah K. Chapman. This was really cute—it’s basically illustrated biographies of a bunch of classic female authors and talking about why they wrote.

Purple cover: Lady of Desire by Gaelen Foley. This is the fourth book in the Knight Miscellany series, which is a historical romance I’ve really been enjoying.

Random author last name P: Fence, vol 1 by C.S Pacat. I actually regret reading this one because now I want the others and I’m still on a book buying ban!

Translated: Inferno by Dante. This ended up being a DNF for me—I really tried but I couldn’t follow along with it.

A sequel: Devil Takes a Bride by Gaelen Foley. I figured since I read book four, I might as well read book five and count it towards this board as well. This is definitely one of my favourites books in the series so far.

Title beginning with R: Red Doc> by Anne Carson. Another disappointment sadly. I loved Autobiography of Red which this is a sort of sequel to but this one just didn’t captivate me in the same way.

Set in a fantasy world/town: Archangel’s Kiss by Nalini Singh. This is the second book in the Guild Hunter series which I’ve just been absolutely loving. This is set in a place called the Refuge, which is basically like an angel stronghold so I’m counting it for this prompt.

This month I’m also taking part in Bookoplathon, Magical Readathon and the Because We Can Readathon—you can see my TBRs for the first two there, if you’re interested. So my hope with this month is to use as many of the books I read for those readathons to cover the prompts I got on this board.

I know that I’ll be reading The Mask Falling for a title beginning with M, and probably Amari and the Night Brothers for a hyped book but the other than that we’ll see what I read as we go along.

And that’s it for today’s post. Let me know what your September reading plans are in the comments below!
